It had that same smell of my Uncle John's house I loved so much that died also from the cancer sticks.
He took care of my grandmother till she died, never married.Uncle John played basketball and was captain of the Torrington High back in the 1930's.
On the walls of this house, you could see where the tar had stained the walls and when then boiled or steamed food in the house, that tar ran down the walls like syrup, literally!
There is not one item in the estate I would want to sell, donate or take home.
Even sadder as the house was FILLED with tons of clothing even with the original tags.
Picture touching a bowl and it sticking to you fingers?
Do not get me wrong, this estate was a "clean out" and the kind people from Simsbury related to the owner paid me to clean it out and sweep it clean!
Yes, I have vices as well, maybe you have some as well?Mine may be worse than those cigabutts ,but this is such a terrible health hazard as a tour of this place would even scare you!
As I write this, I can remember man who was " the first Marlboro Man" on the early 1960's television commercials. Graham Dawson was his name and his brother is another of my Uncle's named Morgan Dawson, never knew Graham.
Cigarettes used to be glorified back in the 1960's right down to the black eye Taryton commercials if you are old enough to know what I am talking about. It was cool to have a pack of butts rolled under your sleve of your white tee shirt. As I look back now, us young 15 year old kids puffed them hiding away from the parents.
Though to be honest I did not see a kid smoke one till the last week of eight grade school at St Francis School.I bet worth things happen now or worse things are smoked in middle school today than back then?
I wish I could even stand within 10 feet of a person smoking but I can not. It makes me gag and really is the only thing, that I feel, could drive me into a panic attack!Hope you enjoy the pictures ans yes, for 25 cents you could either have a carton of butts of a chance at a 1934 chevy!
Well back to the estate and glad I kicked that habit in 1989 and never looked back.
Keep an eye here and have a great week/weekend.
